everyone knows the 'media and it's role in the society' rant. whether it is the beast or the child of it, i cannot tell, but our concept of "morals"( which one person once told me were invalid since they where strictly made up by religion (who is now religious)) and social acceptance is so debased that ads for many things are ridiculous. I just saw an online game ad for some form of "free object" that used lighting animated expulsions of gas from the anus on fire as the main purpose in order to 'win'. I watched a movie for class today that was a rant on the sexual and gender standards taught through ads in order to use the socialization of the populous to further capitalism. we've all ranted on this before, and in truth it will take much more than a blog to fix it, but I surely don't want to be anything like what was in red square (campus) today.
Anti-abortionists brought out grossly enlarged pictures of aborted fetus' and displayed them next to other pictures depicting genocide, attempting to make a comparison of 'genocide of the "unwanted"' equal to that of religious and cultural genocide. I wonder if they consider the effects of rape on a person and it's historical use in genocide. needless to say a good many were irritated and a large billboard was arranged for them to voice their opinions. of course since it's gone on for two days now, the fanatical evangelist have come out to damn us all, while the pro-choicers protest 5 feet away.
phonetics/linguistics test was a joke as far as i can tell. i thought i was gonna die with the lack of studying, but the prof seriously does not expect any form of brilliancy from his students. it was 4 pages of fill in the blanks straight from the notes we had in front of us.
