Gratitude Journal

I've been in a rut this week. This happens to me periodically. Sometimes I can see it coming, and sometimes it sneaks up on me. The problem with ruts is, they can get deeper and deeper if you're not careful and if you don't do something about it. So, I was going to write a post about why I'm in a rut (think Peter Griffin's "You know what really grinds my gears...", but I think that would be a big step in the wrong direction. So, I'm going to take a page out of one of my good friend's playbooks, and write a little Gratitude Journal entry instead.

Here's what I'm thankful for right now:

I'm thankful for my health. I ran 8 miles last weekend, and it was glorious.
I'm thankful for the fall leaves in Forest Park.
I'm thankful for good music. Especially Top 40 pop music, Mumford and Sons, country, and Taylor Swift.
I'm thankful that I get to be a doctor.
I'm thankful for kiddos, and I'm thankful that they tend to get better and go home.
I'm thankful for my family. I can't really imagine a more all-around awesome family than mine. I'm thankful that I get to see them at Thanksgiving.
I'm thankful for my friends, and I'm thankful for the times I get to see them.
I'm thankful for faith struggles. It makes me feel better to imagine God grinning down at me with a knowing smile, chuckling to himself at my doubt and stubborness and guiding me by the hand all along, even as I pull away in the opposite direction like a headstrong child.
I'm thankful for sweatpants and fleece blankets.
I'm thankful for peanut butter and tuna salad, the staples of my diet for the past several months.
I'm thankful for time alone to think.
I'm thankful for TV.
I'm thankful for the really good days.
I'm thankful for sleep.

Here's to hoping that the ruts end quickly and don't show up again for a long time. I'm thankful that my ruts always end eventually.
