"That sword is so Elaeri!" I swooned. I had my choice of an axe and mace with identical stats for my Tyrannical weapon, but Elaeri had to have that beautiful yet menacing sword.
I'm still quite the PvP newbie, and just when I was getting competent with unholy DK in battlegrounds, here comes arena with many opponents experienced, skilled, and geared. But you know, I'm enjoying it! So far, I've done twos with
tadakatzu healing and leading on her disc priest and threes with
bitterxsweetly shredding on her troll cat as well. Go DotH!
Grimelund and I noticed today that my unholy DK fared much better when the match lasted longer. My raiding main (Alliance-side) is a frost DK, and although IMO Blizz did a good thing in tweaking unholy to avoid the orphaned rune awkwardness, unholy still has more of a ramp-up than frost. There are advantages, too, but I'm less effective when up against a glass cannon like with the Tyrannical-geared frost mage who downed me in 3 hits (all crits). I really like unholy when the matches last more than a few seconds. Anyway, so Grim was ruminating that frost might be better for twos in our bracket for the faster burst but unholy would be great for threes, and I thought, "ya know, I am digging Elaeri as unholy, but I love frost, too, so I'll drop Elaeri's little-used-anymore blood spec and try dual-spec unholy and frost." Unholy and 2H frost priority are so close it's not worth the pain and expense of constantly reforging/regemming. I used Elaeri's blood spec to quest from 85-90, but I'm still working on my PvE DPS set, and my tolerance for running the same LFRs is wearing thin, so I'd be months away from a viable tank set anyhow. Swapping out blood for frost is an experiment--I may go back if I'm not enthralled with frost PvP--no big.
This week I've been working on holding back on CC-breakers (trink + Desecrated Ground talent) until really needed instead of blowing my trinks as a knee-jerk reaction. A couple times I held back too much, but it's a dance, and early missteps may lead to later grace.
