It's bad enough having a broken trackpad. For me it means not being able to play challenging content and mouse-induced hand swelling/pain. Most of my in-game time in the past two days has been spent on auctions and fishing because I get away with poking the mouse button rather than handling the entire mouse. But now my worries grow...
The Apple Store wanted over $1,300 I didn't have to repair the laptop. I was warned that the corrosion may spread, eventually killing the whole machine. My only choice was to wait 2 paychecks to buy a reasonable PC laptop and hope like hell the MacBook didn't die in the interim.
When my laptop started showing signs of age, I thought it could kick the bucket "any month now." That changed to "any week now" when the trackpad went on Friday, to "any day now" when the keyboard started quirking out on Saturday, and now to "any hour now" as of this morning when the kid was playing her hunter--she could barely move, and I noticed it was unusually loud and the bottom hotter than I've ever felt it.
I've had access to a computer (be it family, campus computing center, or my own) for 31 years. It's unnerving to think of being without one for a month. I do mail and IMs/texts from my phone primarily, but I'll be unable to play WoW at all, which puts a bit of a crimp in being able to do officers' duties--to say nothing of loss of my top hobby and stress-reliever of the past year.
The next time I turn it on will be to make one last back-up on the time capsule. I have no idea whether I can get my data onto a PC (despite my reliance on computers, I am at my core a humanities person).
