So today I got the funniest call of my life. I'm at work, and my grandma calls me. She's like, your Papa needs to ask you a few questions. And I'm thinking, ohhh shit, what did I do now? My grandpa gets on the phone, and the conversation is kind of like this... (E= me, P= papa)

E: Hey...
P: Hey, lisey. When you add fractions, do you add them straight across or catty-corner?
E: Um... straight across?
P: Okay what if I'm adding 1/3 and 5/6??
E: You have to multiply 1/3 by 2 so both the bottom numbers are the same. Then you add the top numbers.
(He then gives me like 4 different problems so I can tell him the answers.)
P: Okay, okay, what about this one? Jane rides her bike 2/5 of a mile then stops. She then rides 1/2 a mile to Sarah's house. Then she rides 4/5 a mile to the store. How far has she travelled?
E: 17/10, or 1 and 7/10 a mile.
P: How'd you get that, I tried it 3 times and couldn't get it.
E: Um... you multiply 2/5 and 4/5 by 2 and 1/2 by 5, and then add all the top numbers, so... 17/10.
P: Oh, okay! Thanks!

He never told me what it was for or why he needed to do all those problems. It was pretty hilarious though. My favorite was the initial "Do you add them straight across or catty-corner?"

... just thought I'd share.
