I had my 20-week ultrasound last week. Staff couldn't go with me, but Dia managed to get some time off work and join me to see her niece in action.
Good news - the geekling is active, the right size or a little larger, and can still kick herself in the head. She has either discovered picking her nose extremely early, or just hasn't quite mastered putting her hand in her mouth yet. We got a look at her face for the first time, and although the imaging tech made her kind of brown and lumpy, Staff swears she already has my nose.
Bad News - there are no fewer than four clearly visible cysts on her left kidney. One is about a centimetre across, which given her current size is pretty big. So the doctors honestly don't know if she'll have partial function or even no function in that kidney, but the odds of it coming out fully-functional appear to be low. Fortunately, her right kidney looks perfect, so she should be okay even if the left one turns out to be a dud.
Fun Bonus Fact - the ultrasound operator commented on the length of my pelvis, which is apparently the reason why the baby is always pointing either straight up or straight down - she's slotted into the dip in my pelvis. This is apparently terribly inconvenient for the ultrasound operators, who want her to go sideways so they can see everything properly. Oh, well.
This has *not* been the sunshine-and-daisies pregnancy that television advertising has promised me. I wish to complain.
