Happiness!!!
Ok so I don't have much time but just a quick update.
I cut off all my hair... all but a few inches anyway. You can check out a pic in my facebook profile. I donated a little over 10 inches to Locks of Love. Which made me feel all warm and fuzzy. They had to divide my hair into four ponytails to cut it off, and then used a men's buzz cut razor to do it. I thought for a sec they were going to try and shave my head. Anyway, now I'm a lot lighter and my hair is not constantly pulled back... cause I can't pull it back.
I got the De Kiewiet Fellowship, which means the school pays me $3000 plus a $1000 housing allowance to work in my lab on campus for 10 weeks over the summer. My project looks way cool, so yay! Plus turning 21 around my lab mates could be funny... or deadly... we shall see.
And, best of all.... drum roll please..............
I GOT THE GOLDWATER. Ok so for non-science people that's a big fucking deal if you're planning on going into medical/biological research. It's basically $7500 for my senior year and certain admission to most grad schools. It's really wicked awesome. Schools nominate 4 people after a preliminary application process, then of these (about 1100 people), 300 are chosen to receive the award. So it's not UBER selective in the end (cause ~25% get it), but to get nominated and stuff in the first place is a lot of work.
So I'm really really excited. I freaked out when I got nominated, so now I am positively off the wall. For anyone who has talked to me about my senior year money troubles, you must know how amazingly happy this makes me (I technically didn't have enough of my Dad's insurance money left to pay for senior year - now the gov't is going to do it for me!). YAY!!!
Ok I'm done. I wasn't trying to brag or rub it in anyone's face (ok maybe a little but not much), I'm just really really really really excited. Emphatic, no?
