Bad Sunday night movies on TV can be a lonely woman's best friend. They are also a very good way to avoid doing homework. Getting cable was probably a mistake. However, if not for cable I probably would not have had the opportunity to see "Alien Resurrection" again which is a cinematic romp and a great example of a French director trying to add style to an unsaveable American movie and succeding only in making it look really dumb. I love that Ripley, as a clone of her previous self, was born with metallic fingernail polish.
Speaking of the French, I was a bit disappointed that "Triplets of Belleville" didn't win for best animated film or for best song tonight at the Oscars. Great film. I am also sad that Bill Murray didn't win. I can completely understand why Sean Penn got it but Murray is probably a lot less likely to be nominated again considering his usual roles. I wish that comedies in general got more awards show recognition. I think that it's a lot harder to make a really good comedy than it is to make a drama.
Back to FX, Brad Dourif and the alien queen are communing with one another. That's sweet. God bless crappy action films and big stupid comedies. I love a good film but not-so-hot, diverting ones are often even better. Perfect for Sunday nights.
