Well, I officially have a true, grown-up job. I've been offered and accepted the position of Latin teacher at Ridgeland High School.
I went to Magee to look around, but wasn't impressed. The classrooms were ok, but kinda small and ratty. The were switching to uniforms for the students and had a horrible dress code for the teachers. I would have had to wear a red, gray, or white shirt with no image on the breast. Do you know how hard those are to find? Plus, none of those are really great colors on me. Yeah, I know it's petty, but that's not all. They also wanted me to teach a satelite course. I hate those. You get videotaped and broadcast to other schools. It's a pain in the ass to learn. The only real bonus was that he offered to let me coach gofl.
At first, I wasn't really excited about the RHS job anymore either, because they offered it to me in a completely jackass way.
They basically said, "we don't think you're going to do a good job, but we'll let you have the job anyway." I don't know why they think that. I've done an admirable job in student teaching under them, substitute teaching under them, and teaching summer school under them. I think that's just a standard speech they give to new teachers, but it made me feel kinda bad. Today, though, the baseball coach, who was walking by as I was fussing at a girl for disrespect, told the principal that he should never question whether or not I know how to do my job. That made me feel good cause he doesn't even really know me that well. I honestly think that if they're worried about what kind of job I'll do, then I'll absolutely blow them away. It's nice to know that everyone's glad that I'll be there, though. The gossip has already gotten around and I've been getting calls saying how glad everyone is that I'll be back.
Yeah, I'm kinda sad that I won't be back in Hattiesburg, but on the brightside, I'll have more money to get stuff like a new car and will be able to go down every weekend to spend time. Also, if I was there, I would be the one in the group going to bed early, and I wouldn't be there in the middle of the day. I'd be exhausted all of the time and my hanging out time would be seriously diminished.
So, I've got 4 more days of work, then orientation, then I get a little bit of a break. I have 10 out of 30 pages finished on my Latin courses, plus I've already finished my final. I may have to go to a workshop for school, which won't be so bad since I'll be getting extra money. Did someone say new golf clubs? I also have to get busy setting up stuff for the extra-curr. activities that I'm in charge of for next year.
It's so exciting to be a grown-up!
Oh, and this is for Di and Evan.
