White Collar: It is what it is (WIP)
AliWC has created an alternative universe who's moral code is so different from our own that it appears alien at times. It is a world were slavery is legal, has been for generations. What struck me the most is the world she created is not static. You have the elderly neighbor who's ideas of how a slave should act is different from Burke's generation and there is a references to a slave protection act that past in the 90s.
Peter and Elizabeth buy Neal as a companion slave and they see nothing wrong with having sex with him. If you expect the Burke's to see the error of their ways, then you are going to be sorely disappointment. Peter and Elizabeth are a product of their culture, not ours.
At one point the Burkes go to a specialist to become better slave owners and what struck me the most were the similarities between how in this AU they train slaves and how we train dogs and it made me wonder what a friend of mine who is a member of Peta and a long time animal rights activist thoughts would be regarding this story.
I find It is what it is to be compelling and thought provoking; but I can see how people might find it disturbing.
