halifax update: painting part 1

Aug 31, 2009 21:17

#1 our starting point. masked & ready.

#2 the first color is painted on: dark green

#3 the dark green is masked according to the official bomber command pattern. raf aircraft were painted using large rubber mats as masks, so all aircraft looked basically identical.

#4 the second color, dark earth, is painted on, and the masks are removed.

#5 the upper part is masked entirely, so that the underside can be painted "black" (which is actually a very dark gray that I call "night")

#6 the masking tape is removed again

#7 the entire model is coated with future floor polish, making it nice and shiny.

#8 some decals, including the squadron codes and the serial number are applied.

although there is no decal sheet for LL293, I managed to collect all the necessary markings from this decal sheet

the large 8s of the squadron code (8A-P) were made by combining 2 Bs.

tada :-)
