although until this point my experience working with the WEM detail sets was a bit disappointing because nothing quite fits the Matchbox kit, working on the bomb bay was a dream: everything fit perfectly and the level of detail of the set is exquisite.
I had glued the "roof" of the bomb bay in place (after having glued a sheet of styrene on top of it for structural support), and I had bent the rear part upward to follow the lines of the fuselage. WEM does not mention this, but it should be done for more accuracy and I'm happy to say that it only required minor modifications to the WEM parts further down the line.
by the way that's yellow paint on the nail of my thumb, I haven't picked up smoking. the parts are a bit fiddly, but with patience and care everything was glued into place with relative ease. I worked from front to back, and as I approached the upward bend in the roof the cross frames were moving fractions of millimeters back too with every longeron I fit, but that was probably due to my inaccuracy and not a flaw on WEM's part. Because of the bend in the roof there is a break that functions as a buffer, so the third section of the rear of the bomb bay fit perfectly again.
and from the other side:
I've also just glued the tail wheel in place. the kit tail wheel left much to be desired, so I replaced it with a WEM resin item that I made to fit.
