Happy Holidays and geek question

Hi all, happy holidays! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanuka, Kool Kwanzaa, and Foolish Festivus to you!

Being so far away from my family this year, my family mostly sent Lady K and me hard cash instead of gifts. We just used a big chunk of it to buy a 500G external hard drive. Our laptop is three years old (read: ancient) and we have so many irreplaceable things on the hard drive that it would be disastrous if we lost it.

Hopefully I can find a software that will allow me to clone an exact bootable copy of the internal drive. Does anyone know of such a software? Most backup softwares just save directories and files but I need the registry, system files, and everything else that might be outside my ken but just as important.

You know, I really miss being a kid when I didn't feel the need to use perfectly good cash on something adult and responsible.

Happy Holidays to you all again!
