$40? For three and a half hours of work?
Sonuvabitch, I'm actually above minimum wage! 8O
And YES, Richmond Shakespeare and Environment Virginia, I'm looking at you.
Ohhhh, I love working at Red Robin, yes I do. They praise me and say I'm a good little trainee and I get discount food and any order mess-ups go to the staff and it's actually kind of fun. It's oddly like a game, there's this very precise way everything has to go in and if you fuck up the order then EVERYTHING goes to hell and you have to swing in on a vine in order to save the day...! Okay, I exaggerate. But insanity notwithstanding, the job actually is enjoyable. Red Robin surprisingly enough takes pride in having a good work environment and in providing great food and great service. The work load for training week was intense--I still need to work on familiarizing myself with all the recipes of entrees and burgers so I can better identify food as it comes out and recommend different things to people and make sure they're not getting things they don't want on their order, but that'll happen with time. Other than the sheer fuckton of information I have to know, everything is groovy. Fellow staff are friendly, the computer system is pretty damn good, and so far every table I've waited on has tipped on a range from good to GREAT. (Particularly the table I had today where I messed up one of their orders and they tipped me 20% anyway because I was so apologetic! WHOO.)
Though it is hard to spend four hours straight looking at delicious burgers and steak fries and milk shakes and never getting to have one...
College packing must start in earnest tomorrow. I never really unpacked from last semester, so most stuff is still in bins fortunately. My clothes are laid out and my first round of books and DVDs in hand. It's nice to not have to worry about dragging everything I want up there, especially since I'm coming home on Friday for Labor Day weekend and get everything else I want then. The trunk will not be coming with me, so all the knickknacks I had in their will come in convenient cardboard boxes that my mom has been stockpiling in my room. X)
I have an ugly mattress in my car and a stuffed dummy in my room. Reeeeeally need to see to that. This is the problem with being a props mistress--your work comes home with you. I have "firmly" decided that I'm going to be as uninvolved with theatre as possible this semester outside of class. There's a fencing club I want to take, and I'm going to keep in shape, but that's it. The rest of my time will be devoted to either taking it easy or keeping my grades up as high as possible. Of course, now that I've said I won't be involved, the moment I get up to UVA I'll sign up as tech crew for an off-campus Shakespeare production and for designing a set for some obscure Pinter play, but damnit I can at least pretend that I'll have a normal semester for once!
I have not eaten all day aside from grapes and two cookies in the early morning. This fact is now making itself rather noisily known. Later!
