But I like being a CAT

The cinema also showed us this advert, which is very clever, but I need to pick holes in it Be More Doga) they have not allowed for Siamese cats, and similar exuberant breeds - some of the cats, some of the time, are aloof, but it only goes that far ( Read more... )

More cat is better for me, too.

Can we not escape this false dichotomy of cats and dogs? Maybe some of us are rabbits, or spiders, or horses.

I must admit I didn't notice any uncanny valleying in the advert. Maybe you watch cats more closely than I do.

If Cat3 were more aloof my life would be easier. As it is, high-decibel howls for attention and love are emanating from my sitting room at random hours of day and night.

I thought they chose a Maine Coon because those are already a lot more dog! I also don't see it really as being about introverts vs extroverts. Going for the extremes, it would be the hopelessly gullible and ADHD dog vs the narcissistic and lackadaisical cat. Quite coincidentally, PZ had just posted about someone who is totally "more dog" in exactly the very bad way that the advert wants to promote. Which puts me firmly on the side of the (in contrast to that person) cynical, sceptical, realist, scientific "cat" (or, avoiding the simplistic false dichotomy, frog).

We saw this advert and spent most of it wondering what on earth it could be advertising - we are not impressed with the answer! *g* They have indeed not allowed for all kinds of cat (but then the advertising industry sees cats and dogs much the same - arguably, in fact, with more enlightenment - as it does men and women, i.e. OPPOSITE FORCES PERMANENTLY AT WAR)

I want a longer story about a cat who decides to live as a dog (or vice versa) and is judged but ultimately teaches society that people can choose how they want to be/live - c'mon Disney...
