The Great Laundry Adventure

Tomorrow I'm having my cardiac cath done and I need to pack an overnight bag for just in case they put in a stent, which would keep me there overnight. Of course, I spilled soda all over my jeans during game on Saturday night, necessitating a load of darks being washed. But, as I went to start laundry, the washer was not producing water... probably some ice in the line going to the washer (been there before).

So, on to Plan B. I scrounged together two dollars in quarters and headed in my power chair to the rental office to run the laundry there. I forgot to pack the laundry detergent, so I had to head back.

The chair just made it back to the house before losing power. (I think it needs a new battery.) So, I ran an extension cord out to the chair, giving thanks that it is a beautiful clear day. When it's charged enough, I'll bring it inside to finish charging. I stuck the bottle of detergent in my backpack, grabbed my crutches, and slowly made my way back to the rental office. It's half a mile to the rental office, according to Google maps.

I got there, and as I am starting the laundry I notice it's $1.50 a load, and I don't have enough quarters to wash and dry. So, I decided I'll just go home, scrounge for more quarters, and come back to start the dryer.

Nope, no more quarters. *Thinks* Okay, my dryer still works, so I'll just bring the clothes back here and dry them. So I grabbed my wheelchair and a garbage bag to put the wet laundry in, and used the chair as a walker (since it's literally up hill both ways the way the lay of the land is here in the park) walked back to the rental office, set the garbage bag in the seat of my chair and filled it with the wet clothes, then walked my loaded chair back home and started laundry.

I am sore and tired, but I feel accomplished. And it was kind of fun to be out in nice weather and see the ducks and geese, and got two miles worth of walking in.

Perspective makes a difference. Milton knew that when he wrote in Paradise Lost, "The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven." Today I chose to view this as an adventure rather than Hell, and I made my Heaven.
