Ugh. It's been about a billion years since I posted about anything, so this is going to be a huge post. I'll sort it into sections.
We got a good offer on our house in early March, projected to close about 45 days from then. It was really reasonable, looked solid, etc. We did the repairs needed, got everything in line, and are in a good position to close. The downside is that buyer's bank and funding is messed up - while we were supposed to close today, it's been pushed back. We're hoping by the end of the month. We're also hoping that we can get the buyer to reimburse us for utilities, because for this month we're incurring double costs. Because...
...We have a place in Columbus. It's a 2-br townhouse apartment with beautiful hardwood floors, a lovely fireplace mantel, and just barely enough space for us. We packed up our house on Thursday, drove a 24' (BIG LOUD AWFUL) truck to Ohio on Friday, and unloaded it on Saturday. Everything went really smoothly - we're pretty much entirely unpacked and the kitchen is approaching usable. Let me know if you want our new addy.
You might ask why we have an apartment - this story is a little irritating. We had lost our offer on the house at 518 Jeffrey, and so we had a trip planned to look at properties in mid-March. The week before then, I was calling my mortgage company to check up on some details, and (after having one jerkface lie to me and jerk me around, I called back the next day and got a decent human being) found out that because Landon's job is too stupid to provide him with a letter stating that he can continue working from home when his home is somewhere else, we cant' get a loan. We can reapply for a loan in about a month, since at that point obviously Landon will have been able to keep his job; but leases don't come in 1-month intervals so we'll think about looking at houses again in a year. Another option were considering is to live in an apartment for 2-3 years so we can take advantage of first-time homebuyers credits again, plus build up a bigger down payment and pay down debt. We'll see on that one. At the very least, it will be way easier to look at houses when we live there and have a good feel and easy drive to see them and feel out the locations.
Columbus is great. The weather is perfect and spring-like; we have a flowering tree blooming in our front yard. The last few weekends in Peoria have been god-awful, and yesterday and today are no exception. It's cold, dreary, grey, rainy, wet, windy and yucky. I have (some) stuff to do and I don't want to do any of it. The rest of the time I'm bored because there's nothing to do here. And I have stuff I'd like to be doing in Cbus that I'm not doing b/c I'm here - I need to go to Target and BBB and Lowe's to get stuff for the apartment - they were closed on Sunday due to a bizarre religious holiday about a zombie.
So that's where we are. It's been totally crazy (I've put over 5,000 miles on my Prius in 6 weeks) and posting about it sounded like more work than it was worth. Sorry for the radio silence! Hopefully I'll be better now that things aren't as crazy.
PS - bug me about pics and I'll post some! I already have promised to take and post them, so I'll probably just need a reminder.
