I understand you. I didn't like the way in which the anime was separated from manga.
I don't like when the creators of an anime, in order to broadcast more episodes, decide to continue the story of manga before it is finished.
Although sometimes they can make a good work, this time, with Gunlock it wasn't so.
The story that they have created is so strange! And so different from manga!
Characters don't seem the same, the situations are crazy and the end is so bad!
Seems that, at the end, they want make appear all the characters even if many of them are not necessary in that situation.
Fortunately Kazuya Minekura follows her own story even if recently some parts remind me anime (but only the good things).

Up until Gunlock I didn't mind the changes the anime made. Some of the filler episodes I even really liked, like that spa one where Goku thinks Sanzo's turning into a youkai. But Gunlock! Sadface, that just failed.
My sister and I have a theory that the anime creators splurged on getting really good voice actors, so they had no money left when it came time for really good animation quality or script writing.
I wonder, since Gunlock came out before a lot of the manga chapters, did the anime people talk to Minekura Sensei about what she had planned? And did she only have vague ideas of what she wanted, or did the anime just misunderstand her?

I agree with you 100%. The Gunlock anime ending was so awful! I enjoyed the first 2 seasons of the Saiyuki anime, and bits and pieces of the Reload anime... but the Gunlock anime was pretty awful!

Plus, while I always love the Japanese voice cast, I only liked the ADV English voice cast (for the first two seasons)... when Geneon took over for Reload and Gunlock, the English voices were awful!

I'd heard that the English voice cast was changed, and not for the better. I've never actually watched an entire episode in English; I'm too enarmoured of the Japanese cast (^_^)

Sigh. I guess the Saiyuki anime followed the trilogy trend: first one is great, second one not so much, and the third should not exist. Ah well, at least we'll always have the manga!

That's okay. The Burial OVAs TOTALLY made up for Gunlock FAIL. OMG, the Burial OVAs are TOTAL WIN.
