One word: Seabiscuit.

Now I have no interest in horses. None. I haven't even been on a horse in my entire 21-year-old-life. About the closest I came was a pony, when I was five, and I cried. Tammy, my sister, on the other hand has been riding since she was old enough to walk. My dad bought her a horse and she went in for polocrosse on a national level. And she wanted to be a jockey, except she was too tall. So naturally she's nuts about anything horsey, especially horse-racing. For the last couple of weeks I've been subjected to Seabiscuit this and Seabiscuit that. WTF? Yeah, like I care.

But today she dragged me to a screening, because we made a deal that she'd come see ROTK just one more time with me. In exchange I'd go see Seabiscuit with her. I was dreading it. I was hoping for some really exciting trailers and then maybe I could catch up on some sleep.

Nah-uh.

GO SEE SEABISCUIT! Having no interest in horses, I was so completely and utterly moved by this movie. What struck me was that it wasn't so much about the horse itself, but about the triumph of the human spirit during times of great suffering and hardship. Seabiscuit was just a vessel, a real-life vessel for all of that. It was so incredibly beautiful and I cried so much I couldn't breathe at the end. I had to run off to the bathrooms.

It's so absorbing. Luckily we were two of only five people watching it, so we could cheer liberally and jump on the edge of our seats at every race. Go see it! I demand it! It's not a waste of your money. I might even get on a horse sometime soon :)
