Saturday weekendishness

It was a runaround day here at the Villa Sternberg. Started out making waffles in my new Belgian wafflemaker. Those things are much larger than what the old wafflemaker used to make, so it's probably a good thing that there were only four of them when we were done.

Bleach? anonymous December 7 2008, 06:48:43 UTC
I remember being surprised in high school when a girl told me of bleaching her arms. Don't know how common that was, but it was a large Italian population around there.

If a person can shave their legs, why can't they shave their arms?

Well, then, waxing, or electrolysis if you're rich. Sun-bleaching, or even peroxide bleaching, doesn't make the hair go away - it just makes it a little less noticeable against tanned Caucasian skin. I happen to remove most of my body hair - I've been doing it for decades, not because of some idealized notion of "beauty" (which I always knew I could never achieve), but simply because I like the way it feels.

You cannot actually see the hair unless you really pay attention. This all comes from one day when Yamaarashi-chan was in school, one boy came up to her and made a remark about her having hair on her arms. Sigh.

I can't really blame her. I remember in school getting a dress I really adored. Then I had someone make one bad comment about it, and that was enough for me never to wear the dress to school again.

Does she (or do you) have any (probably adult) women friends with dark arm hair who are not self-conscious about it? Seeing that there are cool people who don't care is one of the best cures.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the arm hair thing. I had the same hangup at her age and it didn't last all that long. She'll eventually stop worrying about her arm hair and start worrying about something completely different. :)

I'm so glad those years are past me. I don't miss them at all.
