That's right, ladies and gentlemen, the new scene shop is awful. I've been working and packing in the old scene shop the last couple weeks. We've been making fun of the new scene shop based on what Greg had told us about it. Ha ha no natural light. Ha ha low ceilings. Wee. I'm so glad that I didn't actually see it before I had to start packing. It would have made the whole week a lot harder than it already was. I now see why Greg was so bitchy.
I went to the new space yesterday because Tres and I were sent down there to point the movers in the right direction. It turns out that now we can't really just point where our stuff should go because they don't stack and fit things together so that it'll all fit. Sure it doesn't look like all that much stuff in the old space, but I don't know if it's all going to fit. Anyway, I walked it and I felt like I just lost some sort of pet. It's like I've been living in my dream house for the past couple years and I've just now lost my job and had to move back into that crappy apartment. It's smaller, darker, and louder. I can't even imagine how it's going to sound once you get 20 people working in there with power tools. The ceilings are actually about 12ft (maybe) tall, but there's only really 9 usable ft. At 9ft there is a whole load of plastic sewage pipes. Sometimes you can hear water running through them. The walls are concrete so it's all echo-y and DARK. Yeah, they're going to put in some more lights, but it's still going to be dark in there because the floor and the walls are so dark. I have no idea where we're going to put all the props and old scenery. It sucks.
So, now it's kind of hard to go back to the old scene shop. No more Buzz Stop. No more basketball. No more big sets. Way to give us more limits, Cornish!
So, I may try and spearhead some sort of project involing some research and a very angry letter to send to the administration. They basically won't care if they're screwing us, unless we can prove to them that they're going to lose money by doing so. I hope I get help with it. It seems the effort to come up with the kind of numbers that will be required (how many prospective students they could potentially lose, how much more it costs to have this space as compared to one that doesn't feel like your in a dungeon, etc.) because I don't really know how to get them. Also, I think that there might be the chance that I'll give up once I don't have to be in the shop that often.
I didn't mention it before, because it'll probably change, but the place smells like garbage.
It's awful.
