About Iraq

Hey all, for those of you who may or may not have read Eryn's LJ, my detachment is on alert to get sent over. That basically means just me, cause there's only two of us in the detachment, and the other guy's injured. No, I don't know the probability of me getting sent, or even a time frame, I just know I'm on alert, and it's a very real possibility.

I know Eryn doesn't like it, but here's the truth...I have no problem going if I get called. I don't know a lot about it, but here's what I do know...

-I voluntarily joined the military during a time of war. Was is kinda the military's job
-When I first joined, my sole purpose was going to Iraq. I was going to volunteer to go, but Eryn's insistence and my desire to become a chaplain quickly dissuaded me
-Thousands of soldiers are there now, thousands more have gone, and thousands more will go. A very good percentage of them COME BACK
-As a chaplain assistant, my main job is to protect the chaplain. They're not going to send the chaplain on dangerous missions. Sometimes, they won't even let him off base. Heck, I might be there for a year and never see battle. I know quite a few who experienced that
-Regardless of the danger, this is an amazing opportunity for me. To serve a chaplain and fellow soldiers in a war area, as well as oppressed civilians, is not only great training for my future, but wonderful witnessing and work for the Kingdom
-It is an honor and my duty to go and serve my country
-I will go wherever my God and my country send me, and I WILL excel

So yeah...keep praying for us, but don't be too upset. If I don't go, nothing changes, and if I do, please comfort Eryn while I'm gone, and I'll come back better than I was. God bless, all.
