This just in: People on the Internet SUCK!

I hate the CBR forums. Hate, hate, hate. I hate them as much as the haters love to hate. 9__9 They give comic book fans a bad rep. In fact, they are the bad rep. If someone's only experience with comic book fans was with these guys, I wouldn't blame them for a second for believing Western comics are weirdass crap.

Sure, I'll friend you back. Don't really "do" much around here though, I got DA for that. And I see we kinda share studies (English/Dutch Literature/Linguistics here) and a favourite book (God of Small Things).

It's really good that you got to vent here while keeping your calm on the boards. People could take example of that.

CBR's pretty big and it easily connects fans of different books. Other forums are more "specialised" so in the end there's less variation. I like how people can jump from board to board at CBR. Kinda the best I found up till now, but I too was put off by the atmosphere at first. I think I lurked a year before I made an account.

I really don't get the motivation for that church thread. It could be interesting in theory, but the way in which it is executed... I'm staying out of it. The "endorse" thread provided me with some nice insight into the way people address their teachers over the world though. It went off-topic for ages. Apparently the mod(s?) only takes action when posts are being reported by a bunch of people.

You're welcome. I wasn't sure if I could just barge into your journal like that, but I ended up pushing the "post comment" button anyway.

Linguistics and languages are fascinating. And "The God of Small Things" is just such an amazing book!

DA is a lot of fun too. I'm an LJ addict, but I still go to DA every day to expand my collection of 'Crawler pictures.

There's definitely good things about CBR. I've mostly calmed down now. Yesterday it was just like if you made a comment it would go viral, and you'd be ostracized. There was so much debate and harassment going on. But it's back to normal now, still not my favorite attitude, but like you said, the fact that CBR gathers fans of all different books makes for some interesting discussions. When they don't go overboard.

I like to stay out of it. I'd just get trampled anyway.

People have "barged" into this journal before, and they've been a lot less welcome than you :P I'm glad you did, you also helped to calm me down.

I'll agree :) Too bad over here you have to stay in one linguistic family (Germanic languages, for example, but now they've loosened up so you can throw Roman into the mix) or I would've picked a more exotic combination.

I'm not a writer, so LJ's just to follow some artists who blog here and such. And I've hardly figured out how the site works anyway.

People were having a particularly bad day yesterday, weren't they. I try to stay out of anything negative, and contribute to the good (appreciation threads, y'know ;) ).

Thank you, and you're welcome. As I said, I'm new to this whole LJ thing so I'm not sure about the proper barging etiquette.
