Hey... yep, it's me. I'm not dead. heh! I know it's been a long-ass time since I've written in here. I've been lurking the whole time, I promise. I read, I just don't comment much. I know this will be long and I'm sorry it's not behind a cut. I can't remember how to do one. :/
Let's see... Last time I did a "real" post was when Rick got home from the hospital after his strokes back in Dec of 2007. Last year wasn't much better but there wasn't any hospital stays, at least.
Rick was very lucky in that he didn't have any major problems after the strokes, but he wasn't left untouched. He has some memory problems now. He's still able to work, which we were really afraid he wouldn't be able to do. It took him a little while to get back into the swing of things and he had to be retrained in somethings and monitored for a little bit once he went back.
Even now, when he gets very tired, he gets a little confused sometimes and seems to have some memory gaps. All in all, however, we are both very lucky because things could have been so much worse.
Health-wise for him, he had a rough year with a huge amount of pain due to some osteoarthritis in his back and neck. He's on some major pain meds for that. Also, during the Thanksgiving week he came down with pneumonia, but it wasn't bad enough to be hospitalized, thank the Goddess!
I've been doing ok, health-wise. No problems, really, other than the fact that I've gained about half of the weight back that I lost after my surgery. :-( I'm REALLY not happy about that at ALL.
My dad sent Rick and I some money for Christmas and we put it to some good use. We bought one of those 4 inch foam egg-crate mattress covers for the old mattress we have. Rick was always having painful nights so I talked him into trying one of those instead of buying a whole new mattress. It's a fraction of the cost of a mattress and they really do make a HUGE difference. He seems to be sleeping better, which I'm thankful for (him too).
We also found a 31.5 inch flat-panel HDTV on sale at Sears and it's awesome. Not the HDTV part, though. You can switch from normal to HDTV and we don't see a damn bit of difference. The normal is every bit as good as the HDTV, or the HDTV isn't all it's cut out to be. LOL.... I'm not sure which.
I also got me a brand spanking new Hoover vacuum cleaner and it's PURTY! It was on sale, too, at Best Buy.
But the biggest thing we got was a new treadmill. It was on sale at Sears, too! It's neat and it's still in the process of getting put together. But once it is, Rick and I are taking oaths to use it! He has Thursday off so we should be able to get it finished then.
In other news, I'm still doing that Second Life thing. My avatar that worked at a club as a Human Resources Director (formally stripper! LOL) has been retired and now I have a different avatar that is a DJ. Yep. Me. A DJ (no, I don't do my own mixing). It's fun though and I have jobs at 3 different clubs and they keep me pretty busy. I'll play almost anything. I'll play hip-hop or rap is someone requests something, but that isn't what I normally play. My lineup depends on the club I'm at and the customer base but my range is rock, metal, dance, industrial, EBM, synthpop, goth/goth rock, techno, electronica... When my avie grows up I wanna play at a club called Club Industry. They are the gold standard, pretty much. My avatar is a Neko (basically a human with cat ears and tail-but some take it even further and make their Neko's much less human) and I should put her photo up here! Being a DJ can be a hassle sometimes, but it's sure more fun than being the HR Director! I still have a lot to learn though.
So here is my avatar. Her name is Caley and if I get more ambitious, I'll put more photos in.
I hope everyone is doing well. I miss you guys!
