Hobbit

So, my entire audience (of 2 people) will be pleased to know that Tolkienization of my younger generation has begun. I've been meaning to re-read LotR lately, and then I thought that possibly I should re-read Hobbit, since the last time I read it was over 12 years ago, and it was in Russian. And THEN I had a bright idea that I should offer to read it as Dominic's bedtime story, 'cause the lad's going to turn 10 soon, so he's old enough.

Dominic happily agreed, and I have to say, he's HOOKED! He thinks the dwarves are funny, and loves how their names all rhyme. He's absolutely FREAKED by Gollum (we're at the point where they are at Beorn's place), and after we got past the chapter of Riddles in the Darkness, poor kid had to go to sleep in our bed (until it was our bedtime, at which point we moved him back to his bed). Dominic's pretty pleased that it's his first REAL grown-up book - though I'm the one who's doing the reading. And I have to say, EEEGH, dear J.R.R.Tolkien's words are very hard to read out loud. My tongue keeps tripping up and getting tied up.

So, after we read The Hobbit, I'll wait a little bit longer, and then hopefully start on the LotR. It's more fun when you're reading to your kid anyway. I probably wouldn't have re-read The Hobbit otherwise.
