Glee Squee

I forgot to do one of these posts last episode, but oh well. Have one for this episode...

Glee, episode 5x05: The End of Twerk

All great changes come from people who refused to get used to what was accepted but wasn't right. Unfortunately you're not going to change the world overnight with some radical act of rebellion. You just need to keep finding the places you belong and the people you belong with, and then you'll have an army to fight alongside of you until the world is finally brave enough to accept you for who you are.

What a fun episode! It was touching and hilarious by turns, like all the best episodes.

Firstly, Rachel is fantastic as Fanny!

Who knew she was that good an actress? But I can see why the director picked her. I think this shows just how much Funny Girl has seeped into her bones throughout her life, and how much love and passion she attaches to the role. The fact that Rachel is Fanny Bryce (in the words of her director) is testament to just how much the role has influenced her life up till now.

Kurt and Rachel are ridiculous, but that's what makes them so much fun to watch. I'm glad to see that Finn's death hasn't just been brushed aside for either Kurt or Rachel, that they're both still grieving, and that we get to see them both processing like this.

I also like Rachel's little tattoo. It's perfect.

As for Kurt, I didn't think he was going to go through with the piercing, but it's funny that he did. Lisping Kurt!

Although why Kurt and the tattooist didn't just stick with "It's Got Better" I don't know. Because for Kurt, it already has.

Unique made me cry. I wanted to hug her when she sang "If I Were A Boy."

Alex Newell did such a good job, and I'm so glad he got an emotional solo, because he's amazing with those.

And I love that Jake, Ryder, and Sam jump up, ready to kick some arse for Unique. Good to see their support, even if violence doesn't solve anything. Man, I want to know where Ryder's head is at. He's obviously forgiven her, but...

Anyway, I love Tina's lack of shame about using the port-a-loo. It's so Tina, quietly braver than anyone else. Sue never did reckon with her.

You go, Tina, being unashamed.

I adore that girl.

Marley continues to be awesome and demand respect and I continue to like her more and more. I really liked "Wrecking Ball". I love her voice, and Melissa Benoist is a great actress. She still impresses me with every episode.

That scene with Marley and Bree had me cheering and punching the air. Literally; that's what I did when I saw it. Because I've met girls like Bree, and the creators have got her perfect! It just rang so true, I heard the echo of every girl like her in Bree's words: the claim to care about bullying even while she bullies others, pretending to be progressive and thoughtful with all the right buzzwords, and all the wrong intentions, trying to find power by stomping on others, just to make herself feel better. Yeah, it felt real.

Schuester made me laugh with his Sue-esque tantrum. It's my favourite scene in the entire episode.

And then Becky joined in! With a xylophone!

That scene just got better and better!

I slapped my leg, I was laughing so hard.

I also loved the kids dancing in front of the school board, because they were adorable. I loved the dancing and the costumes and the tour through history. But most of all I loved the final group number. It's one of those fun numbers with lines shared by everyone in Glee Club, where the kids just get to be friends singing together, and that's the best part of Glee Club. That's what makes them so charming and lovable.

Just a fun episode all round, and I loved it.
