It's been a while since Dragonboy asked me something at bedtime. Ever since his dad got him hooked on Mars Mission Lego kits, he's been raving about the next set he's going to get. (Thanks, Spock. I needed the bedroom spillover on the dining room table.)
However, tonight was special because he's back in school, and more things are stirring in his head.
Dragonboy: How do fang-things inject poison in their victims without poisoning themselves?
Mom: What?
DB: Like snakes. They bite something, but wouldn't they get poisoned, too?
Mom: They made the poison, so they're not really going to die from it. I think. Or maybe they're just careful.
DB: But what if they weren't careful?
Mom: I don't think the careless snakes grow up, Hon.
DB: So what makes glow-in-the-dark stuff work?
Mom: No more snakes?
DB: I'll look it up. What about glow-in-the-dark?
Mom: I don't know the hows, but it's got something to do with the stuff getting excited by light, kind of like heating water on the stove. Then after the light's off, it takes a while for the stuff to stop being excited, and stop glowing.
DB: It doesn't get hot.
Mom: I know, but...
DB: You don't know very much, do you?
Mom: I guess not.
I believe it's over: I am no longer Google-Mom.
