OK, I'm not dead. Almost as good: I have my high-speed connection back.
But I am super-busy - and I'm not just saying that because I don't know how to manage my time even with flylady.net listed as my home page on my browser.
I am very sorry I can't catch up just yet with the F-list, and I haven't even tried to look at sew_hip or craftgrrl to see all the pretty things. I don't think I will, and I know I'm missing some truly spectacular stuff.
I have been working at a part-time wage job on weekdays, sewing as much as I can for my farmers' market table on Saturdays, trying to get my garden planted and still be nice to my kids, doing the writers' group thing (involves reviewing fellow members' manus and poetry), desperately trying to finish my dad's 2006 Christmas sweater in time for Father's Day 2008 (double-pointed needles are EVIL!), and just this past week, I was wrestling 20lbs of yellow vinyl-backed nylon through my Juggernaut to make 2 table skirts for a fellow marketeer. I had to charge him a premium for the rush job as he commissioned them last Saturday, to have them ready for THIS Saturday, because he needs them for his booth at the annual Street Sale.
Which is Tomorrow.
At which I also have a booth. And for which I need to sew more inventory.
And then I go back to my weekday job on Monday... and then I go back to my market job on Saturday. I think I can sleep in on Sunday next week. I think.
So I've only been checking email, and occasionally checking in at the Organic Gardening forums because some online friends live in Oklahoma/Kansas/Arkansas areas, and wow, the devastation that happened there a couple of weeks ago! One buddy's sister in Parkersberg lost her house (but found her car and truck a few doors down, and had their neighbour's brand new SUV from a few doors up lying belly-up on their front lawn). No one I know directly was injured, or lost major assets, but... wow. (Still haven't heard from a few people in the Gulf Coast region after Katrina. Still thinking hopeful "come back" thoughts for them, too, if and when they can.)
Anyway, that's my update. Sarah, I hope you're safely and happily married by now. I believe Burge and Stu are having a grand time going to various festivals (it's the season, right?); I'm going to check your LJ as a stand-alone, Budgie, because I want to read the fast-fictions. Kaleetha, there are ballroom dance contests, right? I hope those go/went well. Gila, I hope you sheltered or put off planting your tomatoes on May 2-4 weekend - I didn't plant anything, not even peas and carrots yet, because of these stupid priorities, but I'm glad I held off putting the seedlings I'd nurtured into the ground. Chris, I hope you're having a great spring with your boys, and are looking forward to a good summer. Batspjs, I hope the theatre job is going well. Anyone else I haven't mentioned, good thoughts to you all, and I'm giving everyone a big groupthink hug.
Because in Real Life, I miss being connected to a huge diversity of lives, and it's kind of lonely, having only human contact, instead of a direct link to other people's minds. The parts they want to show, anyway. Weird.
P.S. I AM HAVING A GREAT ELVEN HANDS SUMMER SO FAR! WOOT! I'm actually depositing money in the bank, instead of paying it directly to the cell phone company!
in my happy place,
marketing,
garden,
reality
