Does anyone actually still use dial-up?

So con report... well mostly just a photo post from Anime Expo 2010.

My costume line-up for the convention. In fact, I also brought Luka(my Vocaloid costume), but didn't end up wearing it.

Wednesday - Day 0

This was the day we drove up to the con. A multitude of things went wrong.
I arrived at Thanh's apartment to load her and Lex's gear, only to find they were still working on props. TT_TT
After some finagling, we got most everything loaded, and made bank and other small errand runs. We tried to glue the top to Thanh's Pop staff, and then went to get lunch to allow the glue to set and dry. We returned to find the staff unstable and just not fixable without major rework. There was an unplanned-for weight issue.

So, 3 hours behind planned departure, we hit the road. Thanh stopped to get coffee first, and Lex and I hit the pavement. About a half hour out, I realized I'd left my phone in Thanh's apartment when we were trying to complete her staff. We desperately tried to get a hold of Thanh to turn around and get the phone, since it was in her locked apartment. Unfortunately, Thanh's phone has not-ringing issues. (P.S. Thanh, get your phone fixed.) We finally got her, and due to miscommunication, she thought she was ahead of us en route, so she managed to get Greg come home from work and to unlock the apt for us. Thanh kept going for Los Angeles. (A 2 hour drive without traffic.) I drove back to Thanh's place, got my phone, and Lex and I started back for LA a little after 6pm. =_= Day zero registration closed at 8pm. SCREWED.

By the way, ALL DAY Josh (Lex's friend and our con roomate) was texting Lex asking when we were arriving and essentially expecting to be entertained by us despite the fact we were busy running around like headless chickens. ARGH. Also, he ends every text "with honor". This quickly led to me deciding that word does not mean what he thinks it means.
"We are waiting in line for the transit. With honor."
"We are laughing at the day zero cosplayers. With honor."
"When are you getting here? With honor."
"I'm bored. What are you doing? With honor."
"Are you going to answer me? With honor." (Note, this was about 30 seconds from the prior text.)
"Josh, please stop texting me, I only have a limited number of texts."
"Ok. With honor."
Needless to say, I was ready to smack a bitch before I ever saw his face.

We all arrived in LA surprisingly closely timed. Thanh was checking into the hotel when I puled up, and we had both headed straight there since we both missed reg. Josh came to help Lex & Thanh take stuff up to the room, and I went to valet my car.

Room was big, but a bit dingy-looking. Having 2 bathrooms was nice though.

Lex, Thanh, and I walked a couple of blocks to a trendy sushi place to have dinner. OM NOM. Crash.

Thursday - Day 1

We didn't expect Hei-Man/Jru until late evening, so we did most of Day 1 in our Sailor Scout outfits, with Lex re-wearing her Mizore(Rosario & Vampire). We went to the Sailor Moon gathering that had a hilarious pajamas!Usagi.

Late in the evening Thanh switched to Lolita, I did my Moon Rabbit Spirit/Youkai original costume, and Lex went plain clothes. We headed back to the con to get in line for the Avatar: The Last Airbender panel. Apparently none too soon since the line behind us quickly got huge. They had several storyboard artists there and share some exclusive behind-the-scenes art and clips which are probably online now.
Hei-Man(Boy-Type Ranma) and Tara(Girl-Type Ranma) came and joined us in line and also attended the panel.

Friday - Day 2

Luminous Arc 1 & 2 group cosplay day.
Pop / Popuri = Thanh/xaynie
Pip / Phillip = Hei-Man/jrula
Lucia = Lex/ocdsugaraddict
Dia = Becky/lycorne

I find it amusing that Lex and I kind of looked like villains in this shot.

Saturday - Day 3

CCS Sakura Army group cosplay day.

In order from left to right:
Becky/lycorne, Hei-Man/jrula, Thanh/xaynie, Tara, Lex/ocdsugaraddict

My hat was too heavy and kept pulling my wig off, so went most of the day lugging it around like an over-sized bag.

Thanh and I later went bak to the hotel and quick-changed into Celty & Shizuo of Durarara!!

This was, amazingly, my only crossplay this year.
My sign was the only one with fake concrete on one end (XD) and read "DULLAHAN X-ING" with an image of a motorcycle. Anyone who's been watching the show will get it.

Sunday - Day 4

Hei-Man & Tara wore a couple of Gintama costumes --something about girls cosplaying as boys dressed as girls to make money in a Drag Queen place? I don't know. O_o They do lots of Gintama cosplay, so this is just the latest in a long line of I have no idea what's going on, but it looks good --and then someone starts picking their nose--in character. O_o

Have a photo of our pile o' junk waiting for the valet to bring the cars to be loaded. It was as long as a car.
