About a Girl -Art School
Yes, a Nirvana cover, and actually quite a good one. The vocalist actually sounds a tad bit of Kurt^_- the only thing that bothers me is that this is a little too similar to the original one. New arrangements would've spiced it up. But, all in all, it's always a pleasure to hear English instead of Engrish, and the respect the band has for Nirvana can be clearly heard. People should cover Nirvana more! Kurt is a demigod and whatnot, but really, after all Nirvana is just a band, thought artists seem to think something else. You don't get killed if you cover them, not even if your version sucks ass ;)
Angel -Stabbing Westward
One of the few rock bands which managed to maintain the grunge sound after 1994. A lovely, piercing love ballad. I have this on one of my Charlie/Claire fanmixes :)
All'Improvviso Amore -Josh Groban
Uh, dropping this from the list wasn't an easy choice to make, since I love this song, goddammit. But, I decided only one song/artist. Ah, Josh's pronunciation might not be the best, but his Italy sounds sexy nonetheless *lol*
Notes:
*: One of the best songs of Gackt. Ash starts of softly, giving an expression of a ballad, but changes rapidly into a fast, passionate rock song, which reaches its top as Gackt shrieks "ASH!" at the top of his lungs. Gorgeous. Then, finally, the song fades away really beautifully.
**: I never get bored at praising this song :) It's madly brilliant! The lyrics, the bouncy energy, the catchy chorus.. everything works perfectly, showing that Gazette isn't as serious band as it tends to imply with its texts and themes. (Well, we know there's nothing serious in the guys themselves, but the music tends to get quite heavy every once in a while.)
***: If you're not a MUCCer, Ame no Orchestra is a good one to start with^_^~<3 Tatsurou's vocal performance gives me creeps. This band is incapable of creating anything non-heavenly, i tell you.
****: The song that converted me into a Meev fan. The jazzy piano manages to melt me into goofy smile every time I hear it^^ And the PV is one of the greatest ones I've ever seen! Gotta love the box~<3
