Summer Destination 3: Cavite

The world is becoming a dangerously place.

A couple of vehicular accidents, heavy traffic, a riot in the slum area, police escorting a civilian in motorcycle, a very lousy driver, a not so friendly jeepney driver who over collects fare, a thief disguised as a plastic vendor, and the burning heat of the summer season comprised my Saturday trip, March 28, going to Kadiwa, Cavite.

Clad in brown t-shirt and jeans, I met with Omi in Baclaran at 1pm. We were discussing things about how our weekdays had been and random stuff, after buying some thing for the birthday celebrant. Walking with one of my arms resting over her shoulder, we were heading towards the jeep terminal when this boy, probably about 18 years of age, suddenly blocked my way offering me plastic bags when I need not of it. I was quick to remove his plastic bags in front of my jeans pocket after feeling his fingers slipping inside my pockets. Such modus operandi is not new to me. Just a week ago, I had the same experience inside the bus. It’s a good thing my wallet was small enough for them not to reach it easily.

And so the journey continued, we boarded the jeepney going to Cavite. We paid the fare while asking the driver if the jeep will be going to Kadiwa. The driver did not utter anything after getting our fare. The trip was getting along fine despite the traffic we endured, until one of the passengers clamored about the driver charging excess on what should be the fare. Heated discussions took over as other passengers participated in the exchange of words between the driver and the lady passenger. It all ended with the passengers getting the plate number of the jeepney to file a complaint.

The above situations are just a simple reminder how our society continues to exist/ struggle. We had our flaws too as a society. There is no such thing as perfect community, much more a perfect country. The purpose of the trip was to celebrate a college friend’s birthday and her passing the board exams. There have been some incidents before and after the celebration, however, these situations did not hinder me and my friends from having a fruitful time together. We had our talks on the park. We ate our meals together as we used to do. We laughed at each other’s joke. We managed to have a prolific Saturday. I just hope the next generation would have their turn too before our society evolved into a more dangerous one.

And this is summer destination number three.
