angharad_gov The soft whoosh of a door sliding open and the subtle change in pressure let the winged woman seated in the chair before the large window know that she had company. She turned her gaze away from the emptiness of space to see Diana moving across the carpeted floor towards her.
“So this is where you’re hiding out now,” the Amazon said to her teammate.
Shayera turned back to stare at the stars and sighed. “I’m not hiding. All anyone had to do was look for me,” she commented.
Diana pulled a nearby chair over and sat next to the brooding warrior. “You really shouldn’t lock yourself away like this,” she remarked. When that didn’t get a response she added, “You know we’ve missed you.”
This elicited a snort of disbelief from the ginger haired Thanagarian. “Somehow I don’t think that’s true for some of the members,” Shayera said in a soft tone.
“You shouldn’t let that get to you. In my short time among men I have discovered that they are slow to come about after their trust in someone has been tarnished,” Diana told the winged woman.
Shayera turned her head to gaze into Diana’s eyes. “And what about you? I abused your trust as well,” she said, her eyes never wavering from their gaze.
“I was angry with you,” the Amazon admitted. Shayera turned her head away from the woman seated next to her only to have it turned back when Diana reached a hand up and cupped her chin. “But I’m not angry anymore, and I’m here to tell you that I have missed your company, Shayera,” the brunette said and smiled at the winged woman.
The hawk-winged woman gazed into sincere blue eyes and returned the smile. “I have, too,” she admitted.
“We are both due some down time soon. Why don’t you come with me to Paradise Island?” the Amazon asked.
“Would I be welcomed there?” Shayera mumbled.
“Of course, but not just for knowing me but they would welcome you as a fellow warrior,” Diana admitted.
“Very well, I’ll come with you, “the hawk woman said.
Diana held out a hand to the Thanagarian warrior, who took it, allowing the Amazon to pull her from the chair she’d planted herself in to wallow. She meekly followed the brunette to towards the door, her wings still slumped slightly. Stopping before the door opened, the Amazon turned around and faced the winged woman. “I know you’re not in the best of moods right now, but do you want the rest of the Tower to know about it as well?” she asked.
Shayera’s chin rose, she straightened to her full height and her wings fluttered as they stretched out. “Thank you, Diana. For this and for the invitation; I needed this,” the warrior said sincerely.
“And it is my pleasure to give it to you, Shayera,” Diana said, lifting a hand and stroking the hawk woman’s cheek. “Now come, we have a journey to make,” Diana said and led the warrior out of the opened door.
