Well...it's not everyday that you're discussing architecture with your father in one room of the house, when a small explosion, the screams of elderly relatives and a huge pall of smoke burst forth from the kitchen...
The thermostat blew out of the range. Literally, blew out, smashed the door open, filled the house with thick smoke. We evacuated elderly rellies, threw open windows and doors - in order to see - and worked out the problem. Of course, now we have to try to cool the range down enough to investigate further.
