Things of good: Walking in to the sandwich shop and having the guy behind the counter smile, walk in to the back, and walk back out front peeling an avocado before I even order. Evidence points to the fact that yes, I am officially a regular here

The folks I used to work for just underwent a(nother) coup.

You used to work for the island nation of Fiji?

I did, at their mission to the United Nations in New York. It would have been a pretty sweet gig if I a) hadn't had to commute from New Haven, b) hadn't had to balance school work at the same time and c) had been paid more.

But it was like doing Model UN for real. I wrote speeches for the Ambassador, advised them on policy issues, and helped them devise a treaty database so they could have half a clue as to what treaties they were aparty to, what the requirements were under them, and where they had opportunities to leverage some funding from the UN. Also, I was officially a delegate, so that was just flipping awesome.

Today I got a hummus sandwich at my usual sandwich shop and the manager asked me if I'd ever tried avocado with the hummus. He said that was his favourite. except he didn't say it with a "u".

Oh man, that sounds way tasty. I'm totally going to have to try that sometime SOON. Man, now I'm hungry.

my objection to hummus with avocado is that they're both pasty, and i don't like having two pasty things in my sandwiches (mayo, mustard, etc. don't count because those are bread treatments). but apparently i'm just weird like that.

no, that makes sense. i'm probably a little less discriminating - i'd be more wary of say hummus and guacamole on a sandwich than hummus and avocado. my initial response to proposed tastiness had more to do with the thought that salty things (such as hummus) can offset avocados quite nicely.
