1. What was your favourite book as a child, do you still have it?

I guess it depends what you mean by "child". Earlyish it was "The Woods of Windri" and "The Emerald Crown" by Violet Needham. I have them now, having snaffled them when my mother was moving house.

When I was 10 or 11 my parents read me "The Lord of the Rings" and that became my favourite book. I read it every year until I was about 20. I don't have the copy they read to me, but I have one of a similar edition - when they still had fold-out maps at the back.

2. The bureaucratic side of this heraldry thing we do, what would you change if you could?

The requirement to register a name when you register armory.

3. What trait of yours do you hope your children inherit?

My love of reading.

4. You feel the need to totally indulge yourself. How do you do this?

Firstly I banish the children. Then I take a long hot spa bath at my mother's place (in Wanaka) with a good historical romance.

5. This is the compulsory ultimate garb question. What would you love to wear? Dream large, go nuts.

Well you know my device, "Purpure, a rose and a chief ermine." I would like a heraldic 14th century cote of it. Rabbit fur as the base for the ermine, and silk velvet for the purpure. Under that a purple wool fitted gothic dress and under that a fine linen shift. Shoes hand made by William de Wyke. Buttons and a plaque belt by Bastian. Appropriate hose and tablet woven garters. Extra fine linen veil and wimple.
