Amy and Rory were in the Console room when he returned, bearing clean pants and a smug mien, talking in low tones. Amy said something too low for his ears to catch, but it made Rory let out a bark of laughter that sounded inappropriate and somewhat embarrassed and then Amy was looking up at him, the hint of a devilish smile dancing around the corners of her lips.

"Hey Doctor. The dolls house gave me wood." She grinned and nudged him as Rory groaned, covering his face with his hands "Get it? Wood."

"Mm? Yes. Very nice, I'm sure...." The Doctor stepped past her and very carefully placed a fully assembled Rubiks Cube on top of the time rotor.

"I see you solved that thing, then," Rory tapped at the cube, and the Doctor lightly smacked his hand away.

"Don't touch that, very important. And yes, we came to an arrangement. Well, more an agreement. Well, more a mutual understanding. I won't go near it with a butter knife or attempt to eat it and it won't do horrible things to me. Now!" he clapped his hands together and rubbed them briskly as his companions exchanged puzzled glances. "Appalapachia. Beautiful word, beautiful world. Voted number two planet in the top ten destinations for the discerning intergalactic traveler. " He peered at them over the console, but his gaze seemed to be fixed on something else entirely.

"Lots and lots of lovely windowsills."

When I woke up this morning I found notifications of a four-part story with a very intriguing title in my inbox. I clicked on the first part, saw what the prompt was, and squeaked "WUT?" Then I added, "How on earth can there be FOUR parts to this?"

After reading this through twice (and LMAO) I'm still not how you pulled it off, but it's fantastic! You did a great job getting inside the Doctor's head in the middle of this absurd situation and making it completely believable. And very entertaining.

Random Rambling Author's Note:

We were laughing at the outright hilarity of this prompt in a chat room, and then someone asked "...How would that even work?"

I took apart several rubik's cubes as a kid (AND THAT IS ALL I DID, OK??) so yes, there's lots of little slots and holes and a rather interesting looking centre piece that you could do all sorts of fucked up things with if you were so inclined. On reflection I'm glad I didn't end up going with that offhand comment about 11 shoving them up his arse.
