I borrowed some of this from the ACLU's site and then added and tweaked.

Dear Senator {SENATOR NAME},

As your constituent, I urge you to remove your sponsorship of the constitutional amendment to allow Congress to ban the desecration of the American flag. This amendment would undermine the very principles for which the American flag stands, and would be in direct contradiction to the ideals put forth by the Constitution.

I believe that the function of our Constitution, and all amendments to it, should be to set limits on government and deliver liberty to Americans. This amendment fails on both counts.

The flag is a symbol of American freedom, and we should not be giving the government the power to take away that freedom. To do so is contrary to the ideals which inspired our nation, our Constitution and the flag itself.

The proposed constitutional amendment would do irreparable harm to our right to free speech and undermine the very principles for which the American flag stands. This amendment offers to unravel the First Amendment, and to tarnish the Bill of Rights that has stood unchanged for more than 200 years.

This amendment does not honor the flag. Instead, it desecrates what the flag represents, and what millions of Americans have died to defend. It desecrates it an a manner more potent and lasting than any protestor could achieve.

Again, I urge you to remove your sponsorship from this proposed amendment and to stand against it should it come to a vote in the Senate.

Respectfully Yours,

{MY NAME}
