Thank you. It's taken 7 years to get this meta, IMO, about the best character in the verse, but it was worth the wait. The way you weave her life and growth throughout both series is a monumental task and you did an amazing job of it.
You have managed to school me on many subjects and I love that! Plus, you have made "Saint Cordy" - the one thing that has pissed me off since the first time I heard a fan use the words as an insult - finally be something I can laugh at and say, "I don't think that means what you think it idoes." LOL! I love my saintly girl now.
I know this took you quite some time to write, but it was a huge hole in the fandom that needed plugging and for me it fills that hole perfectly. A million thanks and all my gratitude!
ETA: I knew there was one thing I had a question about. How do you explain the fact that Jasmine was already a god in that world of crab-like creatures where Angel went to find her name. Surely TPTBs knew of her shenanigans on that world. Would they have pulled her out of there and put her in some kind of PTB detention and the only way for her to escape was to hitch a ride on a human? And if she was locked up so to speak, would she have had the power to manipulate anything?
Well gosh, I am glad to have contributed to the conversation in a way you find so important!
I think Cordelia's ascension to sainthood is beautiful and have never understood all the agita over it.
With regard to Jasmine: one of the important things to remember in the Angelverse's cosmology is that Earth is, in fact, the center of the universe. The pure demons were its first inhabitants and Jasmine asserts that those of them who were 'good' become the PTB while the 'bad' ones became known as the Old Ones. Eventually, they were all driven out of Earth into other worlds.
Earth is still the priority for the PTB, and demon dimensions -- both hellish and heavenly, as there are no 'angel dimensions' in BtVS/AtS, just good demons and bad demons -- are secondary offshoots. I don't have a huge problem believing that Jasmine could enact her shenanigans on the insect-demon world without the other Powers noticing, just because it's not where they're looking.
More importantly, though, even if they did notice I'm not sure they would care. Jasmine suggests that the primary concern of the PTB is that humans ensure the balance of Earth, which for some reason is the plane of primary importance. The insect people are not part of that conflict.
Hmm. I never put all the pieces about TPTB together before. When tiny bits of mythos are spread out over 5 years of little comments here and there, it's tough to grasp the big picture.
Now, can you explain the X-files mythos to me because I got lost after about year 2. :P
I have obsessive notes about this kind of thing, because I am a big cosmology dork. Obviously we can't take everything Jasmine says at face value, but aside from the Deeper Well, Anya's explanation of demon purity in Buffy 3.21 "Graduation Day" and Giles's texts from Buffy 1.02 "The Harvest", Jasmine's about all we get with regard to the origin story. And, well, she was there.
I never followed X-Files that closely, so I'm afraid you're on your own there!
