Yesterday I drove down to Bethlehem PA to pick up my brother, and from there we went to Philadelphia to see Blind Guardian at the Trocadero. After nearly getting lost in the ghetto and finally parking in a very convenient but expensive parking garage (it ended up costing $21) we got in line. Slowly we got into the venue and watched the opening act, Leaves' Eyes. They were decent, but I kind of felt bad for them because just about everyone there was there to see Blind Guardian and nobody really got into it, which is probably because it was more mellow Nightwish style stuff, not a good warm up band.
Finally, the lights went out and the first track of Nightfall in Middle Earth played and everyone started screaming at once, and the band came out and started Into the Storm right as the intro finished. It was quite a nice experience to be within 25' of Hansi and Andre, and they gave an awesome show as usual. They had projectors aimed at the back scrim and each song had its own animated background, both using album art and CG cool stuff. When they played Another Stranger Me off the new album, they played the music video behind them as well, which kicked ass. Everyone pretty much sang along with every single song, not to mention The Bard's Song, which they played in the encore. The first closing number (pre-encore) was And Then There Was Silence, and it's always a nice surprise when a band plays their 14 minute epic. Naturally, they ended with Mirror Mirror, with everyone screaming and singing along. God damn I hope they come to the northeast again soon.
