A Night at the Oscars (that would be the Grouch ;) )

The Formal was great fun =) I spent about an hour doing my hair-it shouldn't have taken half that time, but it's got so long that the weight of it pulled the curls out so I had to keep redoing them. (Of course, this morning the remains of them refused to leave, so I had to go to school with a mess of waves.)

The junior girls were nearly all dressed up very elaborately, which we expected, since they've never been to a formal "do" before; so were the teachers, which was slightly ironical since it was they who set the dress code at "semi formal". According to Miss Robinson, that was for Lucy-the-reindeer's benefit :) Despite feeling slightly underdressed I think I looked okay and quite a few people complimented me, which was nice.

Ben insisted on walking past three perfectly good empty tables and attempting to commandeer the teacher's one, so in the end we were evacuated and had to share with half a dozen fourth year boys, as well as bring over an extra setting for Louise, who naturally was late. Despite thinking that boys in general are less mature than girls of the same age, I actually got on much better with the wee fellas than the girls, who are mainly full of themselves and act like they are ten years older, while this particular table of boys was nice enough.

Unfortunately, however, as Kate pointed out, the best looking boys there were all two or three years younger than we are, which is slightly irritating since I'm not a cradle-snatcher *grin* The one whom we believe to be Dan Radcliffe's cousin is particularly pretty ;)
The food was nice enough and we took loads of pictures of each other, both normal and crazy.

The award winners were fairly predictable, but some of the speeches were hilarious, particularly Megan's-the pun on "Academy" actually worked-and Timmy's rendition of the "fornication" joke...although some people didn't seem to know what it meant =) The extra ones that the teachers made up were the best, though: the You don't have to sing, you don't have to dance, just act award, which went to Rusty, the I didn't want to be here but it's actually quite good so please pick me next year award, which went to Matthew Smyth and the WHATEVER happens, the show must go on, which went to Ben Matson for the trouser episode, were some of my favourites. Ali and Miss McConkey's Best "Do you love me" duet was also fun, and the Drama Queen one, the nominations for which included John Trueman, Ali and Aaron Shannon, I believe =) I wish I could remember the rest...

The DJ got a few people to do a Stars in their eyes type thing-can't say I've ever wanted to see John as Elvis, but Timmy and Suzanne were good and Aaron as Michael Jackson, complete with face mask, was just disturbing. Kate and I went outside for a while with Nicola Knight because she couldn't stand the lights, and to be honest I was glad for a break from them myself.

They managed to negotiate an extra half hour, but I came home at half eleven anyway...so handy to home, for once :)

friends, good things
