New Year

Dec 31, 2004 21:42

New Year. Again. Time for introspective-ness. What have I achieved this year that I wanted to? Not a lot, really, though I can't even remember what goals I had at the beginning of the year...obligatory school stuff takes up so much of my time that it's always impossible to do everything I want to and I've been sort of floating along rather than really doing. Most of my "done" list is academic, even if hardly any of my "to do" is...I sat my AS levels and managed to do quite well, afternoon TV-instead-of-revision notwithstanding, I took part in Fiddler, I managed not to go to the Formal, I passed my theory test and kinda learned to drive, I wrote a lot, sewed a lot 9finished two or three pieces) and started drawing again...oh, I went to London for the first time and there was the America episode, too.

What I learned-simple harmonic motion isn't the bogeyman it was made out to be. My friends are wonderful. Teachers are people, too, and some of them are pretty nice. Sometimes it's better to have an unfulfilled dream than a destroyed one. Charity was right about Phantom. When you achieve something there are always unexpected obstacles to enjoying it. It isn't always as bad as you think it is-but sometimes it is. Acting is like life...more about bringing out the relevant parts of yourself that help you become the character than about pasting on someone else. A broken mouse can seem the most irritating thing in the world. Never be a teacher, the children are generally awful. I never want to stop learning, because it's so exciting. It's possible to live in relative contentment with no TV, no comfortable furniture and only three plastic teaspoons. I was right about Peter Jackson. America is the Land of the Grasshopper. Yes, it IS possible to have too many trees. Discussions at 3am are still great, even in a tent that unfortunately smells of boys. When you're old for your age and people laugh at you for it, they eventually realise that you were probably right, after all, so there would be no point in giving in to them. Sometimes you have to trust because there just isn't anything else to do.

Things I'd like to do this year...finish learning to drive and pass my test. Finish my A-levels without cracking up and/or throwing heavy objects around the room. Enjoy university, make new friends but keep the old ones. Play the piano more, draw more. Write more, and better...see more things and more people. Live more.
Try to enjoy what I have, rather than always be looking to the future and letting that spoil the present.
Earn some money!
Finish the Story That Never Ends. Heh. Some hope. Writers I have whinged at internally, I apologise :P
Find out what I want, and how to get it (I know, wouldn't we all love that one? :P )
Become more like the person God wants me to be...less selfish and proud.
Stop worrying about the future (I think I'm starting to contradict myself) and remember more often that what is meant to happen for me, will.

I'm sure there are more...why is it that every time I try to litanise something, I forget it all?
Okay: cultivate a better memory!

2004: The Year in a Brief Review

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Quite a lot of things...I drove on the road, legally =)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
See above...probably not. I'm trying!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
What are the odds I've forgotten someone really important? *shrugs* Can't think of anyone.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Mr. Knight died on the 11th December...can't think of anyone closer than that.

5. What countries did you visit?
England and the USA.

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
A career plan? A university place? Better hair? A singing voice?

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
21st September-we went to America. 10th-12th December, because of Fiddler (I'm trying to blank out 8/12!) 26th December.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Um...not getting lost in the airport? Getting perfect scores in my exams? Finding a mattress that's long enough?

9. What was your biggest failure?
Well, it wasn't mine. Hmm...not being able to resist the temptation of the fair trade chocolate machine in comfy study?

10.Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had a really nasty cold that wouldn't shift for a while.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
RotK EV, or those jeans that are long enough.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Laura Johnson springs to mind, because I've been thinking of Fiddler.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Most famous people? ;)

14. Where did most of your money go?
Money? It never came in the first place!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Actually, I don't think I got that tired about anything, really. Too tired.

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
Josh Groban's song from Troy since I spent most of the latter part of the year listening to it-and singing along, I admit :)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: happier or sadder?
Older, possibly wiser. Not happier, but still hopeful.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Read my Bible more, read more Christian books rather than stories. I'm starting to think a little schoolwork mightn't have been a bad idea, either...

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Day-dreaming.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Eating =) Playing in the snow with my siblings, opening presents, watching films, reading Wives and Daughters while listening to my new CDs.

21. How will you be spending New Years?
Filling in these things since I'm too sick to go out!

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Not really =)

23. How many one-night stands?
Yeah. Whatever.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I don't know...don't watch all that much TV. I like Smallville when it's on, and BBC miniseries-think Mr Thornton ;)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not hate...I dislike and am frustrated by quite a few more, though.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
PotO and Josh Groban.

28. What did you want and got?
The King Arthur soundtrack. A room of my own. Plenty more things!

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Phantom of the Opera

31. What did you do on your birthday?
No idea!

32. What one thing that would have made your year?
Things working out for Daddy.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Jeans and fitted shirts mostly...unobtrusive. Hey, when you're this height you don't need to do anything more to make yourself noticeable :/

34. What kept you sane?
Sane? What is this "sane" you speak of?

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Damn. Knew this would come up. ACtually, I now have several options...had several options. The names of several just left my memory.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Politics, urgh. Just mention a politician's name and watch me simultaneously combust. And, yes, I know it doesn't happen.

37. Who did you miss?
People I've never met.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I don't think I met anyone new, not for prolonged periods, so I think I'll so for Saundy.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
You want me to say something useful? Aw, have a look up at the top and pick whatever you feel like :)

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Gimme a while on that one.

meme, interesting things
