Last nights show was amazing. I was really, really surprised at how few people were there. I'm guessing its just because the advertising was so craptastic. The Bellrays opened the show with a really intense act. I had never heard them before, but immediately liked their music. They did a fantastic job of involving the audiance, or at leat trying to. In all honesty, neither opening act really got the crowd too involved, not because they weren't good, but because most people were just there to see the Pixies and didn't care about the openers. Bloc Party were also good, but their music didn't really translate to an outdoor stage show. As the lead singer put it, "Imagine you're in a really cramped club, it helps." The Pixies were absolutely fantastic. Two songs in, right after Wave of Mutilation, these guys came on stage and presented the band with gold records. Apparently just hours before the show started Surfer Rosa went gold, so they flew to DC to tell the band. After that the show was just a huge celebration, tons of Surfer Rosa, and just a fantastic atmosphere.
