Curiosity Figure (Seed Man), made in Italy, c.1600.
A composite figure of a type that became popular around 1600 in Italy (see also the work of painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo). This little figure (just over 3 inches tall), is decorated with various types of seeds, shells, beetle parts, and gemstones.
