I have several 18th century dresses that I need to make soonish, but my problem is that I have no 18th century corset. I also no longer have an Elizabethan corset. The only one I have remaining is my Victorian one.
Part of the problem is that the other corsets push on my stomach in a way that is very uncomfortable, and due to some gastric problems I really can't have something pressing that strongly in that area. Because the Victorian corset spreads out over the hips it doesn't cause the same kind of pain, and is actually rather supportive for my back.
So - do I build the dresses on top of my Victorian corset knowing that the silhouette won't be the same, or do I make a "false front" piece to attach to the front of the corset to give it more of the flat front look without causing undue agony to my gastric system?
Hmm.
