This is free, and recent, but I don't know if you'll like it....

It took me a little bit, but it became one of those stories that I got engrossed in reading rather than reading-to-read (and picking it apart as I did). That's difficult to do! And it did have a complete, well-crafted and satisfying ending.

Actually, I'm not sure how much of your fiction I've read until now? But this definitely felt like something you wrote. I liked it. Thank you for sharing! :)

Hahaha, as you [should] know Bob, the sharing--or foisting on people--is something writers do all the time, often unasked and unprovoked. The real thanks goes to the readers. Thanks for reading! I figured it was likely that the plot/scenario/etc. wouldn't be up your alley and might even be irksome, so the fact that you got engrossed in the story and thought the ending was satisfying is great. And this definitely felt like something you wrote made me laugh.

Well, I really enjoyed the pov of the protagonist, and the detailed, believable, and setting-enriched plot made a scenario that would otherwise be not be up my alley enjoyable. Plus, the woman-contended-over had a couple of lines that really won me over and made her feel more like a real character rather than a whimisical-ideal/plot-device.

Although you didn't hook me right out the gate, you did eventually, and you showed a lot of solid craft. You should be proud of this story, I think!

I'm glad I could make you laugh, at least! ^_^

I apologize for being a creeping creepy creeper, but I saw this as I was scrolling down to comment, and elenuial's comment about it piqued my interest, so I went and read it. I like it a lot! I'm a sucker for good creative world-building, and yours is pretty much exactly the kind of stuff I like to read about! So, thanks for sharing it! :D

Thank you!! Believe me, it is not creepy at all and absolutely the *best present ever* when someone up and volunteers to read a story I've written--and then likes it! Thanks so much for letting me know!

It's so rare to find someone reading it who doesn't know me, you know? And when they like it, woohoo! (I've seen a few other unknown reader reactions--a couple positive, a couple negative, and a couple who read it before they knew it was by me and, in that condition, liked it, and that made me really happy.)

I totally understand that! I think my greatest creative thrill to date was seeing my story mentioned as a positive highlight in an overall good antho review. In a good reviewing venue, too!

Trust me, though; I'll always be honest in my reaction to a story, though I'll be more diplomatic with my friends (e.g. "It was nice; thanks for sharing!"). If I give a lot of comments, chances are it struck something in me, and if they were as positive as this time, you can trust I thought it was a good story!

It might be a flaw of mine: I can't not be honest with people when it comes to their creative work, though I'll certainly fabulate in almost any other circumstance for entertainment's sake. ^_^

That is *very* cool about your story, and I'm not surprised at all--everything I know about you leads me to believe that you'd have a fresh, original storytelling style, and, as a someone interested in collaborative play, you'd also make the story accessible (without making it "easy"). What was the anthology, and what's the story?
