Snow day 2

Feb 03, 2009 19:23

Have spent a lot of the day on my knees.

I have been adapting the bodice pattern I bought. This means having to trace most of the pieces onto pattern paper, then deciding what to change.

For most of the pieces, this means lengthening, and adding flare to the side seams. I won't know if I have added enought until I make it up.

The longest amount of time was spent drafting the collar. I have my really nice pattern books to tell me what to do, but there is still a lot of calculating to do first. The spider's web on the right is actually about the third attempt at the collar because I kept realising that I'd done it wrong.

First, you have to remember to take off the seam allowances (then remember to add them on again afterwards), before deciding on where your break point is going to be and then trying to draw the rever just as seen in the photo.

I finished this, then realised that the seam on the front bodice was not on the shoulder, but further back.

Re-draft.

Then I realised that the shoulder seam would not be parallel to the seam on the bodice.

Re-draft.

I think it is right now. Only making it up will tell.

Whilst I was doing this, I had two episodes of 'The Time Warrior' and then four episodes of B5 playing to keep me company.
