RansomeCon - TARS IAGM 2015

My annual camping trip when I turn into an Amazon pirate, or a Chinese one.

This year we were on the broads, based at Bungay, not far from Beccles of 'Coot Club' fame. I think I was the only person camping, but the nice people at the campsite found me a little sheltered corner all to myself, not far from the toilet block (always a plus).

My camp did not always look this tidy though. Here it is after breakfast, when I am being a good Girl Guide and airing my sleeping bag whilst washing up.

We went on two boat trips, one on the northern river and one on the southern. We had fun spotting locations from the books, such as;

Horning staithe,

possible Coot Club dyke

No 7 nest site,

plus an ice-cream boat,

lovely sailing ships,

Then we went to Hunter's Yard, where we found the boats used in the TV adaptation of 'Coot Club/The Bix Six' (Also known as 'The Two Doctors')

The next day we went to Beccles and walked into a picture from the book.

All the time, our president Sophie Neville (Titty from the film and researcher on the series) regaled us with her memories of filming. She also had the actual swallow flag from the 1974 film!

So a good weekend as we won back the Dick Callum cup. It ended up with a three way tie after the last round and each team was asked to nominate someone for a tie break. Every hand in my team pointed at me. Four questions into the tie-break, after nearly getting a couple, I got one right.

I get the big cup for a year, and an engraved glass as a keepsake.

Next year is Scotland.
