GeI goes to Spain~

Dec 01, 2009 00:01

But first, a small rant:
I was skimming through an article in a journal on some Russian historical film written by one of my lecturers. When I came to this, my jaw dropped:
...while also suggesting that [the characters] have been worn out by various competing histories and fantasies (such as Disney's "Anastasia").

What?! Anastasia wasn't by Disney!! It's a Don Bluth work from 20th Century Fox! *staaaaareee* Evidently she and the editors of the Film Quarterly are also not very privy to the animation scene.

Gah.

Ok. Back to GeI.
When the description of this vid said that Sakamoto takes this 10-year-old boy to Spain to see Real Madrid, I downloaded it immediately. XD

Fun stuff in there...

.
The staff got them a taxi driver who spoke a little bit of Japanese, and when they hopped out to check out the market, restaurants, etc, what did he do while waiting?

Sing Japanese songs. XDD

I'm not sure what this ditty was, but it sounded like something from Doraemon or Totoro. LOL.

They got to visit the Bernabeu!! (Real Madrid's stadium) And they even got to go on the pitch! 8D

Later in the taxi, the kid asks the taxi driver if there's any place where he can see Zidane..? (someone correct me if I'm wrong 8D) if he's ever met Zidane (thanks, duckii_mustang, for the corrections! :D )

Señor Taxi Driver didn't understand him, and I can totally sympathise. The boy speaks in a rather muffled way and it took me a while to realise that he was talking about Zidane. (I was staring at the subtitles and thinking, "Jidan? Who's that?" for a few moments before it clicked. "OOoohhhhh. Zidane!")

He looks to the adult for help. XD

And the adult obliges by trying to rephrase: Have you ever seen people such as Zidane in town? (again, thanks for the clarification, duckii_mustang!)

(Distracted observation: Sakamoto has nice hands...)

Señor Taxi Driver considers answering in Japanese, but obviously decides that English is the better choice and tells them that there's a hotel where the Real Madrid players meet at before a match - do they want to go see it?

While he was speaking in English, I was seriously curious as to whether Sakamoto understood him or not. There was no translator in the car with them (evil GeI staff XD ). But Sakamoto seemed to actually comprehend what Señor Taxi Driver was saying. Seemed to. I have no way of knowing for sure. He just didn't look as perplexed as I would have expected him to. 8D

Sakamoto pauses before answering and makes a vague gesture.

"Eh?"

XDDD

Sakamoto-san, are you sure you know what you're agreeing to? lol!

Señor Taxi Driver says right, leave it to him!

And Sakamoto almost can't believe their luck. (Well, IF he understood Señor Taxi Driver, that is. But like I said, he did seem to...)

Anyway, they made it to the hotel in question, the Real Madrid bus came up and the players emerged before disappearing into the hotel. GeI team couldn't get close enough because of security (obviously!) so they just kinda stood at a distance and gaped.

And at night, after the kid went off to Dreamland... Sakamoto's night began! XD

He went to drink at a restaurant...cafe... whatever it is. But there's flamenco dancing. And the staff set him up! He gets called up on stage...

... to join in the dance! XD

The next day, they get to watch a Real Madrid game: Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid! (To the best of my knowledge, this is like Manchester United vs Manchester City. Local rivalry~ )
And after the game, they get invited to sort of meet the players as they leave the... uh... what's that word for it... the dressing room? Yea, whatever. :P It's a procession of football stars anyway. :3 ¡Los Galacticos!

El capitan, Raúl, was probably the nicest one to him. He not only autographed his jersey (the others did too) but actually spoke to him. I think he asked him what he thought of the game, and told him to work hard! I think. Too lazy to replay the video to check now. hahaha

Trivia: He was captain of the Spanish team as well. Not sure about now - I don't think he's played international games for a while. Hm. I should go look it up.
(Raul was one of my favourite footballers back when I was football-mad, so his being so nice to the kid pleased me a great deal. ♥ )

And his last words? "Don't neglect your studies!" XDD

"Yessir. ♥ "

Sakamoto had his little fleeting moments as well~

Pity they didn't show more of it. I'd have liked to know if Gravesen said anything to him. ahahahah

And then there was Zidane, who I think is the kid's ultimate idol.

... He was kinda preoccupied with a phone call though.

Ah, I like it when fandoms collide~

And I think this needs to be subbed (as does most of GeI...). =P
.

sort-of-translations, sakamoto, rants
