Can we talk about Empires for a minute?
I know I've been kind of gung-ho about Empires lately, but I have to say - well, first of all, they're one of my bands who are actually releasing content these days, so there's that. I realize the glaring difference that exists in artist-fan relations when it comes to signed vs. unsigned bands (boy do I get that), but I can't really think of another band I've been exposed to that is more grateful to their fans than Empires.
I don't know if it stems from band members' insecurities, an expectation for Howl to pass under the internet radar totally unnoticed, or something else entirely, but they really do come across as genuinely thankful and flattered by how much people enjoy their music. I love that about them. I love that we as fans don't have to come up with some tangible form of appreciation (like the long-ass letter the South American fans gave to Panic - it doesn't mean less, it's just different), because us simply saying thank you seems to impact the band just as much.
In non-Empires news, I am ridiculously excited about How To Train Your Dragon. It's probably the first thing I'll do once I've recovered from my vacation. It looks adorable and I'm a sucker for animated movies.
