I want to buy a new bike. The thing I bought at the Flohmarkt when I first came here is slowly falling into pieces and I don't feel secure on it anymore. And I never really managed to connect with it in the first place. And yes, you need to connect with your bike. Bikes. Girls. They have lots of things in common, you know.
And I don't want to think too much about my purchase. I have some money now (yay me) and I can afford a medium-quality bike to take with me in case I migrate somewhere else. A life partner, sort of. And we can still get a divorce if I really need to move to a place too far away. (I hope s/he doesn't run off with someone else in the meanwhile.)
I went to a shop
_wyrd_sister_ told me about that looked really good, and asked the assistant for a bike I could hit, throw to the ground, jump on, someone who would be with me at the worst without complaining, yet someone who is light and tender to be carried if needed; someone who could accompany me throughout the city streets and the countryside doing his/her best. He quickly pointed me to some trekking bikes, from which I chose out two:
Stevens Galant and
Gudereit LC-45. Of course, the prices were higher than I'd expected; I also took a look to the
Stevens Jazz, which is pretty much the same as the other one but with cheaper components, and the
Gudereit LC-30. But I'm a bit enamoured of the first one, the Stevens Galant. I didn't ride it - rode the Stevens Jazz instead - but GOSH, didn't it look good and pretty, like a charmant man who's just come to town! They were all incredibly comfortable as well.
Whatever I buy, it'll be the "lady" version, not because I want my bike to look more ladylike (mwahahaha), but because I find it much more comfortable. I only resent that the bikes they showed me are so conventional in their design (but I guess I could paint the bike myself). There was a bike in the shop that looked like the riot grrrl of the bikes and I was SO attracted to her - I don't know why the guy didn't even bother to mention her. Guess she was as fake as Avril Lavigne... =P
